Idris Elba to return in second season of Hijack for Apple TV

Apple TV+ has officially greenlit a second season for the gripping thriller “Hijack,” featuring SAG Award winner and Emmy Award nominee Idris Elba, who also serves as an executive producer. The brainchild of creators George Kay (“Lupin,” “Criminal”) and Jim Field Smith (“Criminal,” “Litvinenko”), the entire first season is currently available for streaming worldwide on Apple TV+.

Since its global debut, “Hijack” has emerged as a standout drama on Apple TV+, garnering widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences alike. Achieving a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and securing a spot on the Nielsen Streaming Originals Top 10 list, the series has been described as “instantly enthralling” and a “shot of pure adrenaline.” Elba’s portrayal as the “commanding leading man” has been particularly praised, with the show characterized as a “crisp and tense” drama that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.

Jay Hunt, Creative Director, Europe, Apple TV+, expressed excitement about the global success of “Hijack” and announced the collaboration with 60Forty and Idiotlamp for an equally compelling second season. Elba, also an executive producer, shared his enthusiasm, hinting at a new and intense situation for the main character, Sam Nelson, in the upcoming season.

Season two of “Hijack” will continue to be helmed by executive producers Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, and Tom Nash at 60Forty Films. The series will also be produced by Idiotlamp Productions, owned by creators Kay and Field Smith, with Field Smith serving as the lead director.
