Review: Hits Live Birmingham was one incredible party

Hits Radio and Free Radio brought their huge annual party back to Birmingham’s Resorts World Arena on Friday night and it could not have been better.

Opening with Jax Jones meant the party kicked off with a bang. The chart-topping DJ played back to back hits and absolutely raised roof. Calum Scott went down a storm as he performed their massive track, ‘Whistle’.

Mae Stephens continued the feel good vibes, belting out a string of hits including her tune with The Chainsmokers ‘Jungle’. She would definitely have won a huge number of new fans following a first class performance.

Calum Scott stole the night with a phenomenal set that saw Birmingham go off! With out-of-this-world vocals on tracks like ‘The Reason’, ‘Dancing On My Own’ and ‘Where Are You Now’, Calum deserves to see his career hit the stratosphere in 2024.

Anne-Marie reminded the 12,000-strong crowd as to why she is now a part of British pop royalty. Exceptional vocals on amazing tunes such as 2002 and Unhealthy were delivered with brilliant choreography. The noise levels went up significantly as she effortlessly thrilled the arena.

After a short break, the volume went up again as Tom Grennan, one of the UK’s most talented popstars, took the place by storm. Again, so incredibly effortless, all delivered with such personality, Tom looked like he was having the time of his life. Definitely one to go and see live in 2024!

Cian Ducrot has won over an army of fans during 2023 and it’s easy to see why. A cross between Dermot Kennedy and Sam Smith, Cian delivered a set of stunning songs including fan-favourite ‘I’ll Be waiting’. By this point in the concert, fans just couldn’t believe the calibre of artists before them. We could hear people all around us, full of absolute joy – from five year olds right up to people probably in their late 80’s, every single person in there was having a real party.

And that party stepped up a gear as the almighty Becky Hill took the stage. My god this girl deserves her success. Hailing from Birmingham, Becky couldn’t have appeared more humble and more happy to be there. A set mixing dance bangers and garage belters, this was an absolute superstar performance. My kids, 7 and 9 just couldn’t believe they were seeing their idol before them.

All of that would have been enough to keep everyone happy. We haven’t even mentioned the guest appearances and DJ sets between the artists. They too went down brilliantly and the whole event was just so brilliantly executed, with only very short gaps in between each set.

But to top it all off, the almighty Busted. This band are the absolute definition of a crowd pleaser and just smashed it with their phenomenal hits.

Hits Live really could not have been done better. Tickets for Hits Live 2024 are already on sale here, but you’ll have to beat us to them!
