How do you vote for ‘Your Ultimate Madonna Song’ on Radio 2?

Madonna Louise Ciccone, hailed as one of the world’s foremost pop icons, is set to be honored on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds this New Year’s Day through a three-hour show (2-5 pm) titled “Your Ultimate Madonna Song.” The program will showcase the Top 40 favorite songs as determined by Radio 2 listeners in a vote launched on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on November 27, closing on December 8 at 4 pm. Fans can vote for up to five tracks from Madonna’s 61 Top Ten UK hits.

Hosted by Scott Mills, the Top 40 countdown will include intriguing facts, statistics, and behind-the-scenes insights from archive interviews featuring Madonna and collaborators like Nile Rodgers and William Orbit. The show will also feature celebrity fans such as Alesha Dixon, Gabrielle, Louise, Vicky McClure, Mark Owen, Faye Tozer, and more expressing their admiration for Madonna. “Your Ultimate Madonna Song” will be exclusively available on BBC Sounds starting Boxing Day (00:01).

Scott Mills expresses his excitement, stating, “Madonna has been an unparalleled trailblazer since she first adorned her lace fingerless gloves in 1983 and burst onto the UK charts. What a dream for me to be able to spend three hours counting down Radio 2 listeners’ favorite tracks, so please cast your votes now!”Jeff Smith, Radio 2’s Head of Music, adds, “In the year she performs in the UK to thousands of fans, it’s only right that Madonna is celebrated on Radio 2 for her incredible catalogue of hits that make her a pop icon.”Additionally, two more specials will air on Radio 2 on New Year’s Day and will be accessible on BBC Sounds in the Madonna Collection from Boxing Day:

  1. “Michelle Visage: My Queen – Madonna”: An hour-long tribute to the best-selling female artist in history, Madonna, hosted by Michelle Visage, explores her impact on Michelle’s life and the world. The show delves into Madonna’s music, videos, tours, films, costumes, interviews, and defiance, celebrating why she is hailed as The Queen of Pop (Radio 2, 5-6 pm, New Year’s Day).

Michelle Visage expresses her enthusiasm, saying, “This is a show I’ve wanted to make my entire life, and is a personal and heartfelt love letter to the woman who changed my life… and the world.”

  1. “Madonna at the BBC”: This special features archive interviews from BBC radio and television, discussing Madonna’s journey to fame, ambition, reinvention, and controversies, alongside key songs. Madonna reflects on her years in dance, electronic music, and disco, her acting roles, and the controversies surrounding her. The show provides insights into her feelings for key albums and includes in-depth interviews from her early appearances on Radio 1 to later conversations with various hosts (Radio 2, 6-7 pm, New Year’s Day).

Madonna’s impact on the music industry is undeniable, with more than ten years spent in the UK Top 40. From her humble beginnings at the Camden Palace in 1983 to her 61 Top Ten Hits, including thirteen number ones, Madonna has left an indelible mark. Notably, she held herself off the number one slot in 1985 when a re-release of her debut chart entry, “Holiday,” was surpassed by “Into The Groove.” The show is part of a tradition where Radio 2 listeners vote for their favorite songs, with past winners including George Michael’s “Careless Whisper” (2022) and Take That’s “Never Forget” (2023).
