Humax TV Tonight: The Graham Norton Show welcomes Bradley Cooper and Bryan Canston

Graham gets the lowdown on Argylle, Maestro and The Kitchen tonight on BBC One

The Graham Norton Show continues tonight at 10.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.

Gathered on Graham’s couch this week are acclaimed Hollywood luminaries Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan, sharing the screen as co-stars in the highly anticipated Oscar-nominated Bernstein biopic, “Maestro.” Also in attendance are renowned actors Bryan Cranston from “Breaking Bad” and Bryce Dallas Howard from “Jurassic World,” joining forces in the thrilling spy caper “Argylle.” Oscar-winning British actor Daniel Kaluuya takes the spotlight in the dystopian sci-fi film “The Kitchen,” while the comedic genius Kevin Bridges presents his latest stand-up show, “The Overdue Catch-Up.”

More about the film Maestro, featured on The Graham Norton Show

Maestro is directed by Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born), who co-wrote the script with Josh Singer. Cooper also stars as cultural icon Leonard Bernstein; the film focuses on Bernstein’s lifelong relationship with actress Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein (Carey Mulligan).

Netflix describe the film: “Maestro is a towering and fearless love story chronicling the lifelong relationship between Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein. A love letter to life and art, Maestro at its core is an emotionally epic portrayal of family and love.

“I think people will see the complexity of marriage and the many forms love can take,” co-writer Singer said. “I think those are both powerful themes.”

Cooper trained for months to capture Bernstein’s infamously energetic style of conducting. “One of my favorite Bernstein quotes is, ‘I need to conduct with every part of my body, with my shoulders, with my wrists, with my knees,’ ” Philadelphia Orchestra music director and Maestro consultant Yannick Nézet-Séguin told Netflix. “So many conductors just stopped with their wrists. Lenny’s face, it was so important.” Cooper took that advice to heart; his performance in the climactic performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 is wildly physical. The production’s expert source was pleased. “I can’t take credit at all for Bradley’s performance,” Nézet-Séguin said. “He really got Bernstein. It was insane, every gesture, every facial expression.”

From the twisted mind of Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman franchise, Kick-Ass) comes Argylle, a razor-witted, reality-bending, globe-encircling spy thriller. Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World franchise) is Elly Conway, the reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books—which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate—begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past.

Accompanied by Aiden (Oscar® winner Sam Rockwell), a cat-allergic spy, Elly (carrying Alfie in her backpack) races across the world to stay one step ahead of the killers as the line between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begins to blur.

The top-flight ensemble cast features Henry Cavill (The Witcher), John Cena (Fast X), Oscar® winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story), Grammy winning pop superstar Dua Lipa (Barbie), Emmy winner and Oscar® nominee Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Emmy winner and comedy icon Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek), Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service), and the legendary Samuel L. Jackson. Alfie is played by Chip, the real-life cat of supermodel Claudia Vaughn (née Schiffer). Argylle is directed and produced by Matthew Vaughn, from a screenplay by Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman).

The film is released in cinemas on 2 February and will later stream on Apple TV+.
