Best TV Tonight: A charity Motorbike race ends in Charity in Grantchester

Grantchester is set to make its highly anticipated return for its eighth series tonight on ITV1 and ITVX at 9pm.

Produced by Kudos, a Banijay UK company, the immensely popular show features Robson Green reprising his role as DI Geordie Keating and Tom Brittney as Reverend Will Davenport.

Although Will is currently experiencing unprecedented happiness, his world is about to be shattered by a tragic accident. As someone who has always preached the message of a compassionate God, he grapples with despair that propels him into a perilous downward spiral.

Geordie, on the other hand, has discovered a newfound contentment in his relationship with Cathy. However, when they both face shocking announcements at work, their happiness is jeopardized. As Mrs C, Leonard, Jack, and Daniel come together to offer support, both Will and Geordie find themselves navigating unfamiliar emotional waters, all while the ever-present threat of murder looms.

The eighth season of Grantchester promises a diverse range of storylines, delving into subjects such as speedway and espionage, exploring the lives of invisible women, and addressing the visible challenges brought about by Leonard’s new vocation, which may once again lead him to clash with the law.

This explosive series, touching on themes of faith, forgiveness, and redemption, will test Will and Geordie to their limits. Returning cast members include Charlotte Ritchie as Bonnie, Tessa Peake-Jones as Mrs C, Al Weaver as Leonard Finch, Kacey Ainsworth as Cathy Keating, Oliver Dimsdale as Daniel Marlowe, and Nick Brimble as Jack Chapman. Special guest actors for this series include Shaun Dingwall, Jeff Rawle, and Jemima Rooper.

Grantchester, adapted from James Runcie’s Grantchester Mysteries novels, is executive produced by Emma Kingsman-Lloyd, Daisy Coulam, Robson Green, and Tom Brittney. The series is commissioned by PBS MASTERPIECE and PBSd for US audiences, with international distribution handled by Banijay Rights.

In the first episode, the discovery of a 19-year-old biker’s body in a field, following a charity motorbike race organized by Will, sets the stage for a complex investigation. As Geordie and Will delve into the case, they uncover tensions and rivalries beneath the seemingly happy surface. Meanwhile, Geordie faces questions about his longevity in his role from DCI Wallace, and Will and Bonnie navigate the challenges of parenthood amid clashes over parenting approaches.
