My Fair Lady announced as Curve’s 2024 Christmas production

Get ready for a dazzling and enchanting Christmas in Leicester this year as Leicester’s Curve, the renowned theatre, unveils its plans to bring Lerner and Loewe’s timeless classic musical, My Fair Lady, to the stage. The Made at Curve production is set to run from Saturday, November 23, 2024, to Saturday, January 4, 2025.

Under the direction of Curve’s Artistic Director, Nikolai Foster, whose recent acclaimed productions include Evita, A Chorus Line, and the award-winning Billy Elliot, the stage will come alive with the magic of George Bernard Shaw’s 1913 play Pygmalion, brilliantly adapted into the musical we know and love.

My Fair Lady, first performed on Broadway in 1956 with stars Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews, followed by an Oscar-winning 1964 film adaptation starring Harrison and Audrey Hepburn, is a captivating tale. It will now grace the Curve Leicester stage, promising a memorable experience for audiences.

Curve’s Chief Executive, Chris Stafford, and Artistic Director, Nikolai Foster, expressed their excitement, saying, “Lerner and Loewe’s music and lyrics, matched with the words and imaginative brio of George Bernard Shaw make My Fair Lady one of the finest musicals from the traditional canon.”

They continued, “It’s a show we’ve wanted to present at Curve for many years, and we are thrilled Christmas ‘24 will be made magical by Shaw’s glittering crew of eccentric characters and some of the most wonderful songs ever written for a musical comedy. And at the centre of it all is Eliza Doolittle, surely one of the most inspiring characters ever to have leapt from the imagination of a writer.”

My Fair Lady follows the journey of Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower seller from Covent Garden, who crosses paths with phonetics professor Henry Higgins. Together with his friend Colonel Pickering, Higgins endeavors to help Eliza transform into a lady of high society, as she aspires to open her own flower shop. Along the way, lessons are learned, and Eliza’s free spirit brings magic and joy into the lives of those around her.

Filled with iconic characters, romance, and unforgettable musical numbers such as ‘The Rain in Spain’, ‘Wouldn’t It Be Loverly’, and ‘I Could Have Danced All Night’, this Made at Curve production promises to be an unmissable Christmas treat for the whole family.

Sponsored by De Montfort University (DMU), with the show’s orchestra sponsored by music licensing company PPL, tickets for My Fair Lady will be available for Curve Friends from Wednesday, February 7, Curve Supporters from Thursday, February 8, Curve Members, Groups, and Access Register customers from Friday, February 9, and on general sale from Wednesday, February 14, all at 12 noon.
