Slow Horses is returning for a fifth season

Apple TV+ has officially greenlit a fifth season for the critically acclaimed and darkly comedic spy drama, “Slow Horses,” following the culmination of its third season. The series, lauded for its gripping narrative, features Academy Award winner Gary Oldman, whose stellar portrayal of the irascible Jackson Lamb earned him a recent Golden Globe nomination. The third season’s finale premiered on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, exclusively on Apple TV+.

Since its debut in 2022, “Slow Horses” has earned widespread acclaim, being hailed as “undoubtedly the best spy series on television.” Described as a “forceful, funny, and conspiratorial” show with “excellent writing and performances,” each of its three seasons maintains a Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, solidifying its status as a global sensation acknowledged by both critics and fans.

In the upcoming fifth season, viewers can anticipate a thrilling narrative as the Slow Horses, a dysfunctional team of British intelligence agents based in the unglamorous Slough House, grapple with a series of bizarre events linked to Roddy Ho’s mysterious new girlfriend. As the team works to decipher the connections between these strange occurrences, Jackson Lamb, the indomitable leader, remains guided by the principle that in the realm of espionage, ‘London Rules’ should always be applied.

“Slow Horses” is characterized by its darkly humorous take on espionage, following the misadventures of MI5 agents relegated to Slough House due to career-ending blunders. Alongside Gary Oldman, the ensemble cast features esteemed names such as Academy Award nominee Kristin Scott Thomas, BAFTA Scotland Award winner Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Samuel West, Sophie Okonedo, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Kadiff Kirwan, and Academy Award nominee Jonathan Pryce.

The series is produced by See-Saw Films and adapted for television by Will Smith, who also serves as an executive producer alongside a distinguished team including Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Douglas Urbanski, Gail Mutrux, Julian Stevens, and Graham Yost. The director for the upcoming fifth season is yet to be announced.

All three seasons of “Slow Horses” are currently available for streaming on Apple TV+, with the fourth season previously announced in 2022. Since its launch on November 1, 2019, Apple TV+ has emerged as a trailblazer in original content, amassing 421 wins and 1,742 award nominations, with acclaimed productions like “Ted Lasso” and the historic Oscar Best Picture winner “CODA” contributing to its success.
