Mary and George trailer released as Sky confirm March start date

Mary & George is set to captivate audiences on Sky Atlantic and NOW streaming service from March 5th, Sky confirmed today.

This exceptional production features Academy Award and BAFTA-winning actor Julianne Moore (known for roles in Still Alice, Far From Heaven, May December), alongside Nicholas Galitzine (Cinderella, Purple Hearts) and Tony Curran (Mayflies, Your Honour). All seven episodes of this limited event series, inspired by a scandalous true story, are set to premiere on Sky Atlantic and the streaming service NOW on March 5th.

Mary and George is coming to Sky TV in March

In this enthralling historical psychodrama, Julianne Moore takes on the role of Mary Villiers, a woman with humble beginnings and ambitious aspirations. Her character endeavors to shape her second son, George (portrayed by Nicholas Galitzine), into a figure capable of seducing King James VI of Scotland and I of England (played by Tony Curran) to become his influential lover.

Mary, always the most astute individual in the room, discovers an opportunity to exploit the King’s insatiable desires for fine wine, company, and men. George, naively beautiful and charismatic, is thrust into the limelight as his mother orchestrates their pursuit of the King. Through audacious scheming and seduction, Mary and George ascend to the center of the Court, emerging as the most powerful family in England.

George gains power, his relationship with his mother is strained to its limits. George must prove to himself that he is defined by more than just his beauty and make a lasting impact on history, regardless of the consequences.

The ensemble cast includes notable names such as Nicola Walker, Niamh Algar, Trine Dyrholm, Sean Gilder, Adrian Rawlins, Mark O’Halloran, Laurie Davidson, Samuel Blenkin, Jacob McCarthy, Tom Victor, Alice Grant, Amelia Gething, Mirren Mack, Rina Mahoney, and Simon Russell Beale.

Mary & George is a production by Hera Pictures in association with Sky Studios, written by D.C. Moore (known for Killing Eve, Temple), inspired by Benjamin Woolley’s nonfiction book “The King’s Assassin.” Liza Marshall serves as the executive producer for Hera Pictures alongside D.C. Moore, Oliver Hermanus, and Julianne Moore. Oliver Hermanus, also the lead director, has an impressive resume including Living and Moffie. Sam Hoyle acts as the executive producer for Sky Studios.

The series will air on Sky Atlantic in the UK, Ireland, DACH, and Italy. STARZ holds exclusive distribution rights in the US and Canada, while NBCUniversal Global Distribution handles international sales on behalf of Sky Studios.
