Channel 4 announce afternoon of Christmas classics!

Channel 4 have lined up an afternoon of Christmas treats including The Snowman, on Sunday 3 December.

Yes, Christmas comes early to Channel 4 with a whole afternoon of treats to keep your family entertained. It all starts at 3.40pm with the documentary The Snowman: The Film That Changed Christmas. Forty years on from The Snowman’s first broadcast, this film reveals how Raymond Briggs’ classic book was brought to the screen and became a Christmas institution in over 29 countries, spawning hit singles, a cameo from David Bowie, and a host of snowy spin offs. With exclusive interviews with members of the team who created it, and featuring contributions from children’s authors Tom Fletcher, Joseph Coelho and Dapo Adeola, the film explores how The Snowman made an indelible mark on the minds of generations of viewers.

At 4.40pm, Father Christmas. It’s the classic animation based on Raymond Briggs’s book. What does Father Christmas do with himself for the other 364 days of the year? Here’s a chance to find out.

The Snowman is on at 5.10pm. Raymond Briggs’s classic Christmas story is Channel 4’s most celebrated animation. On Christmas Eve, a young boy decides to make a snowman. During the night, it comes to life and whisks him off to the North Pole to meet a very important person.

It’s followed by the sequel, The Snowman and the Snow Dog at 5.45pm. The charming animated sequel to Raymond Briggs’s classic The Snowman. When young Billy and his mother move house, he finds a snowman-making kit hidden under his bedroom floorboards. When it begins to snow, Billy builds a snowman and a snowdog. At the stroke of midnight, the snowman and the snowdog magically come to life. Billy awakens and joins them on an amazing adventure, flying over London and onwards to the North Pole, where they join snowmen and snowwomen from around the world. Billy even meets Father Christmas before returning home, where a wonderful surprise awaits him.

There will be another chance to enjoy the classics across the Christmas period.
